Cousin sleep over

I loved cousin sleep overs when I was little. I think I slept at my cousin Becky's house more than I did my own. So I love when Boston and Jaegans cousins what to sleep over. Abbi, and Caleb came over the other day and decided to sleep over. They had a fun time, and Boston loves his cousins. They all payed in the playroom until they fell asleep. We all got up and had pancakes and played some more. I love staying home and having these fun memories

Bear Lake Anyone?

I thought a trip to Bear Lake would be fun. So we are going to go up Aug 9th, if anyone would like to go, just let me know. We thought we would take a lunch and just go find a beach and play for the day. The more the merrier, so invite anyone that you would like. We hope that everyone can come.

We did it!!!

Well, we did it. We got up at 4:30 and ran the Deseret News 10K. We had a lot of fun. Our goal was just to finish and run the whole way. We were all a little nervous at first and had to wait in line for the porta- potty's. The race soon started and we were off. Ben and I were running together until he took off and left me behind. I ran with Jami and Danielle the rest of the way. We really did have fun, about mile 4 there were people to cheer us on, while helps keep yourself going and keeps you motivated. Once we turned onto the parade route it was a little crazy, people yelling and cheering, and people crossing the street in front of you. I got a little frustrated with them, because I didn't want to stop running for fear I may not start again. But we made it, by mile 5 I was pretty tiered. Ben of course finished first, followed by Jami and Danielle,and then me. We checked our times this morning and we didn't come in last so we are going to do it again next year, and hopefully improve our time. I'm glad that they decided to run with me, and hopefully we can talk more people to come next year. Unfortunately nobody was there to take our picture so we don't have any proof that we did it, except our sore muscles this morning.

Here we go !!

Less than 24 hours and we should be done running our first 10k. OK Ben has done it before, but for me this could be a huge accomplishment. I'm very excited and a little nervous. I really just posted this to pump me up and get me in the right frame of mind. We can do this, right Jami?! Wish us luck

The Dark Knight

Let me start by saying, WOW.

Jenny and I decided to brave the opening night crowds and see the most anticipated movie of the summer, "The Dark Knight". It doesn't mean as much as it used to when you can get reserved seats at the Megaplex. Let me tell you, that is the greatest thing to happen to movie-going since homogenized lard-based butter flavor popcorn topping! Jenny and I rolled in to the theater at 6:20 for our 6:30 showtime, which definitely beat the 3 hours we could have waited in line to avoid a front row seat had we not had reserved seats. The other greatest thing ever: online purchase with kiosk pick-up. We didn't wait in a line all night. It was fabulous.

Now to the movie...it's hard to say that any movie could live up to the hype and expectations that came with this movie, but I can say that "The Dark Knight" was the closest of any over-hyped summer blockbuster that I've seen. I think part of the reason I loved Iron Man so much is that I had no expectations for it, unlike "The Dark Knight". I probably rank "Batman Begins" as one of my top 5 all-time favorites. I had extremely high expectations for this movie and they weren't helped by the fact that the pre-release talk of Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker is Oscar-worthy and it had Best Picture buzz to boot. Needless to say, I had HIGH expectations going in.

And, for the most part, they were exceeded in every way. Some of the peripheral things that I love about this movie: First, they went away from a CG Gotham and used a real set as a back drop. This gives the whole movie a sense of realism and makes Gotham a main character that I think was missing a bit in "Batman Begins". Second, there was nothing too over the top in this movie, much like "Batman Begins", except for The Joker, but that was expected. Ledger's performance is unreal, almost captivatingly creepy. The scariest part about him is that there is no apparent motive to anything he does other than to prove that everyone is as insane as he is. Ledger should win an award for this performance. Third, I love the underlying social commentary that is present in both films. If you pay attention to the dialogue, there are a lot of thought-provoking points raised about society's acceptance of vigilante justice and the restrictions placed by law on those who have been appointed to uphold the law. Both these movies are extremely smart in that way.

Overall, the movie is intense. DO NOT TAKE KIDS! Although the violence is tamed to a PG-13 level, there is enough to make you think they got away with something. They use the soundtrack and effects perfectly to build suspense and anticipation, much like a horror movie where you know something is coming but don't know what it is until you're off your seat. To use some showbiz venacular, this is a HARD PG-13. Don't take the rating lightly.

That said, this is the best movie of the year so far. "The Dark Knight" does not disappoint. It will be one that you will want to see again to review what you may have missed. I'm sure there will be points that I missed the first time when I see it again, hopefully soon.

The most impossible thing in the world...

Trying to reason with a 3 year old! I tell you, I think I'll take Boston's third year off if it continues to go the way it is going now. Maybe I'm unreasonable in my expectations, but he's a smart kid, so I think he should be getting the message. A little too smart, maybe. If he has an accident, he tries to take care of it himself, which may sound like a good thing until you find stinky, wet underwear in dark corners of our new home.

Also, am I asking too much when I ask him to hold still for anything? The kid can't be still to save his life. If he were trying to hide from a T-Rex in Jurassic park, he would make an hours douvers of himself!

At any rate, you can't help but love the kid. Read Jenny's last post to get a flavor of his amazingly cute and funny side. Another example from last night, we were heading home from a family reunion and he was tired and grumpy. He fiddles around in his seat and managed to get himself entangled in his car seat straps. He starts freaking out, "Get me out! I'm stuck".

Again we try reasoning with him. "Boston," Jenny says, "we can't get you out until we stop the car."

He continues his unreasonably loud and incessant freak fest. In an effort to calm him, we offer him a drink of water. Without stopping, he tells us "That's not going to get me out."

Funny Story

I just have to share this funny story about Boston. Yesterday he wanted to watch a movie with his cousins in the play room. When I try ed to start it, it wouldn't play. I called Ben and told him about it, and he tried to tell me how to fix it. So I'm sitting on the floor and messing with wires and stuff, and I figure it out and start the movie. So next thing I know Boston is standing behind me with his arms around my neck, his face in my face and he tells me " I'm so proud of you mom, you fixed it" I was so happy that he was proud of me. I love making him happy. When Ben got home I told him about it, and we both laughed so hard we were crying. I love Boston, he is so thoughtful

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July, Ben, Jami, Matt, Danielle and I all got up early and ran in the Kaysville 5k. Ben and Matt rocked and us girls were proud of our self's for running the whole thing, even up 2nd North. We had a great time and even signed up for the Deseret 10k on the 24th of July. If anyone wants to join us you are more than welcome.

After the race we went and had breakfast at Jami's house, and then to the parade. We had so much fun, I think the older kids (Ben, DJ, Erik) had more fun than the little kids ( Boston, Emma, Jae). Every float that came by, or person for that matter got a nice loud cheer. The little kids got lots of fun toys and candy.

We thought it would be fun to go swimming but decided on a slip-n-slide down the Gunn's hill would be more fun. Ben and I ran home to get swimming suits but fell asleep, so we missed out. But everyone else had fun.

We ended of Independence day with Kaysville fireworks. We kind of have our traditions now and love it every year. I think Jami and I started a new tradition this year of going to get ice cream before the fireworks.

Well I know this is boring, but its fun to reminisce.

Also, Jaegan is walking. He still tips over a lot, or Boston knocks him down. Which makes him so MAD. But he loves playing with Boston, so he just gets up and follows him again. I cant believe how big he is getting.

Jaegans surgery

On our way to Primary Children's, last picture of gooby eyes. Hurray!!

So we finally have a goob free baby. He had his surgery this morning. We went to Primary Children's about 9:15 and waited til about 10:15 to get called back to see the nurse to take his vitals and get him in his cute surgical PJ's. He looked so cute. Then they took us to another waiting room where the Dr and anaesthesiologist came and talked to us. The nurse asked us if we thought Jae would be okay to go with the surgical nurse, I just laughed and said does he have a choice? She told us she would give him something to calm him down. The lady sitting next to us, laughed and said that it makes them act drunk. So they gave it to him and that was the first time I about cry ed. Jae is just so little to be getting " drugs". So about 10 minutes later he starts swaying and Ben and I were laughing and he looks up at us, and gives a totally loopy smile and is drooling. So we start laughing even more and I'm kind of crying because it was kind of sad. So he got pretty sleepy so when the time came to hand him over, he was fine with it. The procedure only lasted about 30 minutes and they did have to use the balloon to stretch his tear ducts open. Eventually they called Ben back and they left me waiting until they moved him to a bigger recovery room. When I made it back there he was still sleepy and hooked up the all the machines. I went right into mommy mode and took him and rocked him, made him as comfy as possible and was just concerned that he was in pain. He eventually woke up and we were able to take him home. I am very thankful for the knowledge that we have to do such procedures and to make such a annoying little thing go away, but I am even more thankful that we were only there for that. There was more than a couple of parents waiting in the waiting room because there child was having chemo or was there for surgery because their child had cancer. Many of the parents seemed to know their was around and I'm sure they had done it before. I'm thankful we weren't there for a more serious reason.

Thanks to Adam and Jami for letting Boston spend the night so we could be with Jae.

Quiet Moments

I just wanted to post a few cute things Boston has done lately. More for me to look back on, than for you to know, but oh well.
So Boston likes me to lay by him as he is going to sleep. So the other night he had gotten in trouble for biting Jaegan, and so as we are laying there he says " Mom, I'm sorry for biting Jae, but he put his finger in my mouth". It was so sweet. Just both of us laying there still and quiet and he apologizes. It actually explained alot, I was afraid he was going to start biting, and don't kids usually stop by 3, not start at 3. Then tonight we are laying there and he whispers, " Mom, I like our new house" He just makes me laugh and smile. I just give him a kiss and say me to. He is such a sweet little boy. Then a funny story, So Boston has been watching Meet the Robinson's lately, and for you that havent seen it, his friends name is Goob. So we are watching it and Boston says, " mom we should call Jae goob, and I say why? Because he has goobs in his eyes. So I laugh and say okay, and we call Jae goob for the rest of the day. Fast forward like 2 weeks later to breakfast and Boston and I are sitting eating and he asks where is goob? I'm like " Who?" Goob, and dad? Then I remembered that we were calling Jae that. I just laughed and told him, he was still asleep. He is such a funny little kid.

Anyways, just for your info also. Jaegan's surgery on his eyes is Thursday. I'm sure it will all go well, but keep him in your prays. I don't think I worried about Boston being put to sleep when he got his tubes at 8 months, but Jae just is so little and a baby still. I cant imagine him laying "dead" on the table and not get a little worried. I'm sure the doctors know how much anastesa ( I have no idea how to spell that) to give him. He will be fine and good as new soon.Well have a good night. And we will talk later
