What a great weekend. I love conference. When I was on my mission, we would drool over the conference edition of the Ensign because we never were able to watch it. In my last area, we did have a stake conference where everyone watched one of the sessions, but it was in a crowded, noisy chapel and it was in English, which wouldn't have bothered me except that hardly anyone understood anything.
We weren't able to attend the Saturday morning session with Jae being sick, but we felt the spirit of sustainment (not a word, I know) as we stood in our house when called upon to raise our arms in support of our new Prophet and President. It was enlightening to hear them all express their feelings of inadequacy and humility with their new callings. It was powerful to hear Elder Holland express, seemingly extemporaneously, his emotions as he has witnessed the mantle of the prophet fall on the able shoulders of President Monson.
I am excited for the future of the church. It is amazing to me how President Monson's entire life has been devoted to service in the Church and service to his fellow man. It was fun to hear the personal anecdotes shared by so many of how he has touched the lives of those he has come in contact with. What an amazing man! You can not doubt that he was prepared by the hand of the Lord to be the leader of His church at this time. I look forward to what he has to share with us and the contributions that he will make. As much as we all miss President Hinckley, it is inspiring to see how succession works in the highest levels of the church and we have no need to wonder who should be our leader when one passes on.
I can't wait for the Ensign so I can review the numerous messages. It seems as thought the time for mixing words is over. All the messages were very clear and straight-forward. I hope that I can be better about doing what I have been encouraged and counseled to do by those who have been called of God.
